Data Connection: OpenSharing
Connect your BESS data to TWAICE directly from Databricks, with no new pipeline to build.
Overview
To use TWAICE analytics, your battery energy storage system (BESS) data must be available in the cloud. If your data is already published through OpenSharing on Databricks (the open protocol formerly known as Delta Sharing), TWAICE can connect to it directly.OpenSharing is designed for customers who:
- Already have BESS data in Databricks and can make it available to TWAICE through OpenSharing
- Want to avoid building a new integration on either side
- Are looking for the fastest path to connect an existing data platform to TWAICE
Key features
- Zero-copy connection: TWAICE reads directly from your existing data share, with no data duplication and no new pipeline to build.
- Built for Databricks: TWAICE's OpenSharing connection is built and tested for shares hosted on Databricks.
- Flexible update frequency: Up to near real-time, depending on how your data is published.
- Low maintenance: TWAICE maintains the connection on an ongoing basis; no maintenance required on your side.
- Read-only access: TWAICE only requires read permission on the shared catalog or table; your data platform remains fully under your control.
How it works
- Grant Access: You (or your OEM/data platform provider) grant TWAICE read access to the relevant shared data.
- Schema Mapping: TWAICE maps your data structure to our internal format. Every shared data source is structured differently, so this step is scoped individually for each connection, at additional cost.
- Streaming Retrieval: TWAICE pulls new data on a recurring schedule, timed to when your data becomes available. Schedule alignment is scoped individually for each connection.
- Data Available in TWAICE Platform: Incoming data gets processed and becomes available in the TWAICE platform.

Requirements
- Data platform: an open data-sharing protocol your data is published through, e.g. Databricks OpenSharing
- Access: Read (SELECT) permission for TWAICE on the relevant catalog or table
- Update frequency: confirmation of how often and when new data is published, and whether it is shared as a standard table (scheduled retrieval) or a streaming table (near-continuous retrieval).
👉🏻Near real-time data update frequency is possible on the TWAICE platform, depending on whether your data is published to the share continuously or on a set schedule. Confirming your publishing cadence during onboarding lets us configure the fastest connection your data supports.
Note: Because OpenSharing connects to your existing data platform rather than a fixed TWAICE-defined interface, schema mapping and schedule alignment are scoped and quoted individually as part of onboarding. Your TWAICE representative will confirm timeline and any additional requirements during setup.
