How TWAICE calculates the financial impact of lost energy

See how TWAICE estimates the financial impact of imbalances on revenue, which references it uses and answers to common questions.

Note: The financial impact calculation has to be enabled for your system by your Customer Success Manager. Reach out to them if you don't see it yet.

Impact of imbalances on revenues

For the background information on how the recoverable energy is calculated, please check our article here.

The recoverable energy has an opportunity cost to it, the current revenue is reduced because of the potential revenue which you are missing out. These costs are what TWAICE is calculating for you.

But Why?

We understand that you have a lot of things to do and many difficult decisions to make. By highlighting the impact of imbalances on your system, once in MWh but also in $, we want to facilitate the decision making on your end. Does it make sense to run a balancing process? Which problem should I tackle first? Is this really a problem or just something good to know?

Financial References

Depending on the market and how your system is set up, TWAICE either uses dynamic price information via the Modo API or the following static reference:

35,952.5 USD / MWh / year

or per day

98.5 USD / MWh / day

This is of course only an approximation to your true revenues. It represents a mix from 1h and 2h systems.

Knowing the recoverable energy in MWh for the selected day enables TWAICE to calculate the financial impact for the timeframe in question using the financial reference value mentioned above.

Financial Impact in $ = Recoverable Energy loss in MWh per cycle * No. of cycles * No. of days * Financial Reference

FAQ

The daily loss is missing

In case the daily loss is missing, the energy loss could not be calculated for the last day. This can have different reasons but is linked to the availability of the TWAICE SoC. Either the TWAICE SoC is not yet rolled out or there is a data gap that hinders the calculation.
