How to use the Imbalance Analysis
Learn how the Performance Manager automatically identifies SoC and voltage imbalances in your BESS and visualises them so you can act.
As an asset owner or O&M manager in the BESS industry, you understand the critical role of State of Charge (SoC) and voltage balance within your battery strings. Performance issues like imbalances can significantly impact performance and revenue. But pinpointing the root cause quickly and efficiently can be a challenge.
The goal of Performance Manager - Balancing: identify and address SoC and voltage spread imbalances faster than ever before.
How it works
Automatic Identification & Classification
-
Our system automatically analyzes data from your battery energy storage system (BESS).
-
Leverages expert-developed classification algorithms to categorize imbalances based on their potential impact on performance. This eliminates the need for manual interpretation and simplifies understanding.
-
Leverage the "Insights" section to quickly find the components on a rack level which require maintenance
-
You performing predictive maintenance is enabled by this
Clear Visualizations for Informed Decisions
-
The first graph provides a enclosure-level view, highlighting the maximum imbalance within each enclosure over time.
-
This allows you to quickly identify any trends or spikes in imbalances.
-
You have the option to choose between voltage spread and SoC spread. Once SoC is rolled out for your system, always use the SoC spread to determine imbalances, but you can use voltage spreads at the beginning to identify the issues right from the start.
-
Using the mouse, you can get more information for each day how the different enclosures are classified
Drill Down for Specific Events
-
Select a particular day on the first graph.
-
Instantly, the second graph and detailed information tiles update to focus on specific enclosures experiencing large imbalances on that day.
Note: As soon as the TWAICE SoC is released for the system, it will automatically switch from displaying TWAICE Voltage Spreads to TWAICE SoC spreads.
Powerful Filtering for Large Systems
-
Managing hundreds of enclosures? No problem!
-
Use our intuitive tile filters to narrow down imbalances by their classification. This allows you to quickly focus on critical issues and prioritize actions.
Understanding Individual Rack Contributions
-
Understanding which enclosure is performance limiting is relevant, because the balancing process are usually done on this level
-
However, pin pointing problematic issues and linking it with a specific components requires the view on the lower levels, this is achieved with the heat map which can be unfolded just below.
-
It shows if single rack lead to the imbalance or if it is a systematic issue within the entire enclosure.
Identifying Trends to Gain Predictive Insights
-
Ultimately you want to receive predictive insights to ensure that problems are fixed before they arise
-
This can be achieved by leveraging the imbalance over time view, which shows the trends of the individual string imbalances over time
-
Leveraging the visual representation, these trends can be spotted early enough
Standard settings for the criticality classifications
NMC:
voltage spread medium: > 70 mV
voltage spread critical: > 120 mV
SoC spread medium: > 5 %
SoC spread critical: > 10 %
LFP:
voltage spread medium: > 20 mV
voltage spread critical: > 75 mV
SoC spread medium: > 10 %
SoC spread critical: > 20 %
These can be adjusted if required, but are a good starting point in case no other specifications are known from the start.
Why have we chosen different severity levels for NMC and LFP and how did we choose them?
The chosen severity levels are based on experience from what we see in the market as really achievable with state of the art BESS systems and with taking into account the implications these imbalances otherwise have on the overall BESS performance.
Current BMS and balancing processes have challenges to truly align the voltage and SoC levels, especially for LFP systems, hence, the severity levels allow higher imbalances for LFP.
