With the TWAICE Performance Manager, you can easily detect & investigate issues within your battery energy storage system. The Performance Manager contains two sections: Imbalance analysis and Thermal Analysis. In this article, we describe how you can use the Thermal Analysis to quickly detect and investigate potential thermal issues in your BESS, helping you to avoid long-term damage to your asset and avoid safety-critical incidents in the future.

There is already an article available for you to understand more about thermal incidents in your BESS and their potential root causes available [here](https://support.twaice.com/knowledge/what-to-do-about-high-temperature-alerts-in-your-bess?hsLang=en). This article focuses on how you can use the Performance Manager to find these issues, and how to turn the insights into action.

**Note on naming:** In this article, a *node* is the level that groups your strings (racks), for example a DC Combiner. Your platform may show your own name for this level.

### Components with recent noteworthy temperature readings

### Optimization Dashboard

At one glance, the Performance Manager Dashboard lists all components which showed temperature readings requiring your attention from the day before. This is a simple to-do list and highlights significant, curated insights. As soon as you navigate deeper into the solution, this overview remains available for you in the sidebar.

#### Predictive Insights

The insights which are relevant for you are automatically collected in the "Predictive Insights" section. This enables you to deep dive further if you want to understand in more detail what is happening, but it frees up time on your end to focus on other tasks.

### Nodes over time

The first chart provides you with a view over time, to show progression over time of nodes with at least one noteworthy module with high temperature readings. The switch in the upper right corner allows you to toggle between Maximum Temperature to Module Temperature Spreads. Maximum temperatures require your attention because they influence the performance, lifetime and safety of the system. Temperature spreads provide a great way to visually control the effectiveness of the HVAC system.

In the chart, you can identify whether issues are intensifying, e.g. whether more nodes reaching noteworthy temperatures over time. Also, you can see if certain operational patterns, for example, the weekends, cause different thermal effects on your system.

### Localizing nodes

The next section of the page is your entry point into localizing the issue. After selecting a date on the upper chart under "Discover system temperature over time", you get an overview of all nodes in your system just below the "Identify nodes with extended temperature" section.

With the tiles under “Highlight nodes according to severity”, you have the option to filter the chart for better visualization.

#### Identifying patterns

Randomly appearing peaks for nodes indicate local thermal anomalies, which are not purely operational. Potential root causes can be found in this article [here](https://support.twaice.com/knowledge/what-to-do-about-high-temperature-alerts-in-your-bess?hsLang=en).

[![](https://support.twaice.com/hubfs/Knowledge%20Base%20Import/image-Oct-20-2026-12-29-06-9228-PM.png)](https://downloads.intercomcdn.eu/i/o/18773140/cdf301f9308840f951d71591/image.png?expires=1792501200&signature=5f6f70e812174873b897526333a3442d414d6d0e3b7dfa42b1ce964ac21f8305&req=0d1owlv7qDdk2hL085ZhoWk0JKDMKk4laVSS89wWH1nCIo%2BMNwTVP%2FnamWY2%0AIEHQmnEP%2FhU4qodm%0A)

A more consistent pattern can be caused by your operation strategies, e.g. certain clusters performing more demanding operations or due to the system design, with e.g. strings in the middle of the container tending to higher temperatures. Discover more by unfolding the next section of the screen under **"**Find and pinpoint the string(s) causing temperature anomalies in the nodes".

[![](https://support.twaice.com/hubfs/Knowledge%20Base%20Import/image-Oct-20-2026-12-29-12-3115-PM.png)](https://downloads.intercomcdn.eu/i/o/18773524/2c728e842b286fa81d3f504d/image.png?expires=1792501200&signature=95dc4f761fdc0fe75366228adf376ee9f1accbc9e5e70c9115a8b1663bacdbc4&req=0d1owlv%2FrjNk2hL085ZhoWJTNLBUL0dSA%2B%2BjKvTX8ZX7gHGIGPNfidoheU9J%0Ay97BucFuK9lZPigp%0A)

### Pinpoint the specific string

When unfolding the section **"**Find and pinpoint the string(s) causing temperature anomalies in the nodes" below, you can identify if single strings or multiple strings contribute to thermal anomalies in the various nodes.

#### Identifying patterns

If all strings in one node (one column) show similar patterns, it might be related to your operation. It is worth keeping a regular eye on it, to ensure everything remains within safe operational limits. You can set up Smart Alerts notifications to be informed about critical events.

Single strings being an outlier in one column for one node, indicate that the issue exists locally in the string. This means that the root cause in operation is very unlikely and that an issue in the system exists.

[![](https://support.twaice.com/hubfs/Knowledge%20Base%20Import/image-Oct-20-2026-12-29-17-4117-PM.png)](https://downloads.intercomcdn.eu/i/o/18773225/88f7d11576d2184f441e5fc4/image.png?expires=1792501200&signature=0d06450993b9bcae06c2c70d00ea95ea898808495c6d5871fea432e974b7f7ba&req=0d1owlv4rjJk2hL085ZhoWJ6sDq8wlqc5f51%2BMduZFbJt%2BABSP6Zdsokb3zN%0AITcxK5pMCBrKrHZf%0A)

Clicking on the node in the bar chart above brings you to a view over time for this string to identify since when the issue exists and if it became worse over time.

#### Patterns over time - Identify trends

When one node in the "Identify nodes with extended temperature" section is selected, the node specific view is opened. In here, you can analyze the evolution of the temperature over time and identify trends before they become critical.

[![](https://support.twaice.com/hubfs/Knowledge%20Base%20Import/image-Oct-20-2026-12-29-22-0445-PM.png)](https://downloads.intercomcdn.eu/i/o/18775620/8221a51d779f8cead15df92f/image.png?expires=1792501200&signature=34276710cb2895403de52f46c44f29210a3261be1df58527d62ca4800e0b9584&req=0d1owl38rjdk2hL085ZhoWy9VXsNQpBFlOxWIB9Q9v9Eepp8mEy97mjmEQhF%0A%2B68oH1%2B9iJ6LG30P%0A)

#### Take action

Hints how to tackle the issue are given in the “What you can do” section in [here](https://support.twaice.com/knowledge/what-to-do-about-high-temperature-alerts-in-your-bess?hsLang=en).

### **Remember!**

Early detection and intervention are crucial to preventing damage to your battery system and ensuring its continued safe, reliable and profitable operation. By understanding the potential causes of high temperature incidents and taking appropriate action, you can maintain the health and performance of your battery.
