A battery energy storage system is made up of multiple components. For large sites in particular, it can be challenging to grasp how exactly everything fits together. We've now introduced the BESS Hierarchy Diagram to provide clarity and actionable insights. In just one view, you can:
-
Understand how your BESS fits together
-
See immediately if any action is required
-
Understand where exactly in your system action is required.
Benefits for different stakeholders
The diagram provides a useful overview of your site, and is beneficial for multiple stakeholders involved in BESS management and operations:
-
Asset managers: Use the diagram as a basis to communicate with performance engineers and operations teams.
-
Performance Engineers: Use the diagram as a starting point for identifying issues, understanding how your system is running, and developing strategies for performance improvements.
-
Operations Managers: point O&M teams to the exact location of problems during on-site visits.
Using Hierarchy Diagram — Step by Step:
Watch this quick tutorial video to learn all about Hierarchy Diagram or contunie with steps below:
Expand and Collapse
First, simply click on "Hierarchy Diagram" in the navigation to view your site hierarchy.
You can easily expand the diagram to view sub-components. Simply click on the arrow under "Components" to expand the diagram. Click again to collapse.
Alerts and Analytics
Each tile represents a component in the system. The top bar is colored red or yellow depending on present alerts on that component which requires your attention.
Alerts: To see what alerts are coming up, hover over them. You'll then have the option to go directly to Smart Alerts or Safety alerts investigate them in more detail.
Navigation
Easily navigate your way through the diagram with the toolbar on the right-hand size:
-
Search for an individual component
-
Center the diagram
-
Reset the diagram
-
Enter full-screen
-
Zoom in and out
Toggle between Live Mode and Analytics Mode
Live mode
The live mode is intended to give you a close to real-time monitoring ability. It shows State of Charge and average temperature, as well as running state (idle, discharging or charging) and active power for individual modules. Please note that the delay depends on your data connection - if using an API connection, this data can be shown in real-time.
Analytics mode
Analytics mode, shown in the image above, gives you an overview of the alerts that are occurring in your system. By clicking on the alert, you can dig deeper to explore and resolve the issue.
Operational Metrics: See important operational metrics of the components such as cycles, throughput, availability and SoH in plant level.
Recoverable Energy: Directly access usable/ recoverable energy metrics and get a quick overview if there is any components blocking usable energy.
Toggle between Electrical and Physical Hierarchy
Electrical Hierarchy
Electrical Hierarchy, displays how individual components are wired together, focusing only on elements that affect energy flow. Components with multiple parent connections are shown in their own subtrees for clarity.
Physical Hierarchy
Physical Hierarchy option shows all physical enclosures (e.g., racks, containers) together with their direct electrical children. Electrical components such as Strings or PCSs appear within their physical housing rather than by wiring.
PCS Insights
Access PCS and PCS Module insights in this view as well, such as alerts, throughput, availability and running states.
We're always open to feedback!
We're really exited to bring you the first version of the BESS Hierarchy Diagram. We will be rolling out a number of improvements over the next few weeks and months. We're always happy to hear your feedback. Just reach out to us!
